Ken A. Verni, Psy.D is a clinical psychologist with a private practice in Highland Park, NJ (NJ license # 4119). He specializes in working with adults and adolescents, drawing on his clinical training in psychodynamic and cognitive approaches and his deep appreciation for the transformative nature of mindfulness practice. Dr. Verni has been a practitioner of mindfulness meditation since 1987 and has been receiving training through the Center for Mindfulness at University of Massachusetts since 2006. He continues to participate in the advanced trainings and supervision offered at Umass for experienced MBSR teachers. He has been co-teaching and teaching the 8 week MBSR curriculum originally developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn since 2007 and he currently offers an 8 week MBSR course to the general public in the Fall and Spring months in central New Jersey locations.

Dr. Verni is the founder and director of the New Jersey Center for Mindful Awareness located in Central NJ. In this role, Dr. Verni provides a variety of workshops, trainings and courses for professional, corporate and general audiences throughout the tri-state area. He has provided modified MBSR programs for the United Nations Headquarters and Google Offices in NYC, the National Institute for Drug Abuse, the NJ Juvenile Justice Commission and numerous grant funded mental health agencies throughout NJ. His doctoral dissertation entitled “Sitting still in the midst of change” explored the positive impact mindfulness practice can have on adolescent emotional stability and identity formation. A frequent speaker on the topic of Mindfulness and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Dr Verni is currently involved in projects incorporating mindfulness practices into wellness and recovery programs for teens and adults with mental health or substance abuse difficulties and Self-Care initiatives for mental health workers in NJ.


Dr. Verni is also affiliated with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ where he provides trainings in Mindfulness and Mindfulness-based stress reduction to mental and behavioral health care providers throughout the state. He also provides supervision and training for the doctoral candidates in the clinical psychology internship program at UMDNJ.
